DESCRIPTION OF PINEAPPLE VARIETIES GROWN BY MAG-M AGRO IMPART
Also referred to as 'Golden Ripe', 'Extra Sweet', ‘Maya Gold’ is a hybrid developed by the Hawaiian Pineapple Research Institute. It gives a medium to large (1.3-2.0 kg) cylindrical, square-shouldered fruit, with large flat eyes, and a strong orange-yellow colour. The rich yellow pulp is sweet, solid, and fibrous. It is high in sugar (15-17° Brix when fully matured at around 140 days after flower induction) and ascorbic acid but lower in total acid than the Smooth Cayenne.
It is cylindrical in shape, has fruit weight ranges of 1kg–1.6 kg, with predominant weights around 1.1kg. This pineapple variety has smooth leaves and an edible core Fruit with no woodiness in the centre has white flesh with high sugar content but low acid it is very fragile and prone to bruises and shocks from mishandling.
Also known as Queen Victoria Pineapples, which thrive in the hot and humid climate. This sweet, pineapples have a strong, rich flavour. It has a fragrant, golden skin and brilliantly coloured yellow flesh. The fruit is entirely edible, with no need to remove the core when it is fully matured and ripe.
It is the most important cultivar from this group of varieties. It is very popular variety for the canning and fresh fruit. The production cycle for Smooth Cayenne is longer than most of the other varieties because of the plants near freedom from spines except for the needle at the leaf tip and the size-1.2kg- 2kg kg-cylindrical form, shallow eyes, orange rind, yellow flesh, low fibre, juiciness and rich mildly acid flavour.
